Conti Cigolotti di Meduna family comes from Val di Ledro, in Trentino region.
They arrived in Montereale in the XVI century.
Until the end of the XX century there was a certain professor Cigolotti in Val di Lepro, probably a member of the ancient family who lived there.
The founder of the family who arrived in Montereale was Tommaso Cigolotti.
In the Church of St. Rocco, at the Cemetery, there are still the stone banisters carrying the initials T.C.
Later on Antonio, Pietro, Giacomo arrived and so on until today, where Nicolò has taken, next to the surname Cigolotti, also his mother’s surname, the Austrian S.R.E. countess Christalnigg (M. Teresa) Von und zu Gillitzsterie.
The Cigolotti family build their current house in Montereale at 10, Roma street.

The Cigolotti family build their current house in Montereale at 10, Roma street.
The house in front of the Parish Church of S.M. Assunta, with the four Seasons Arch was put up for auction at the beginning of the XX century. The great-grandparents and some other family relatives used to live there. They build also a real XVIII century Venetian style villa in Basaldella, but the house, inherited by a daughter, was then sold, as well as the other country house in St. Martino.
Cigolotti members are wealthy wood traders. Once arrived in Valcellina, they buy some woods in the districts of Barcis and Andreis. All the wood goes to the Venetian Republic, that, in the XVIII century, made them Counts (of Meduna is the land title) and giving them different mandates. They maintain the land register of that area and are under Venice rule.
The great-grandfather has been mayor of Montereale for 50 years. Also his son Mario had the same role for a certain period.
The family carried out some activities basing on their land through some farmers in the past, finally they started their own activities.
Now the land has been sold, and the last sharecroppers’ house has been changed into, I would say, a sublime Farmhouse called “Casa del Conte” (Italian for Count’s house).
“I wish the new owners all the success today and for the future”
